Result / RESOLUTION OF PPRECIATION
WHEREAS, the Republic of China (Taiwan) was a founding member of
the United Nations and has always been a law abiding member of the
Community of Nations; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Republic of China have built a
successful, prosperous, free economy through hard work and enterprise;
and
WHEREAS, the Republic of China is important to the economy of
the United States, the State of Utah and the City of Salt Lake; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Commission has had, over many years,
the honor of a very close and productive relationship with the
Chinese community of Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, there has always been a friendship with the Chinese
community in Salt Lake City and a friendship which has been created
between the City of Salt Lake and the Republic of China; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Republic of China have been among
the most trusted friends and allies of the people of the United
States since the founding of the Chinese Republic in 1912.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners
of Salt Lake City on its own behalf and on behalf of citizens of
Salt Lake City, does hereby extend its appreciation to the Chinese
community of Salt Lake City and to the people of the Republic of
China (Taiwan) and to further express the Board's desire as follows:
1. It is the desire of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City that the relationship between the City of Salt Lake and the
Republic of China (Taiwan) continue to exist on a government to
government basis;
2. That all kinds of treaties, contracts and agreements go
through the Congress of the United States and that said Congress
pass a specific bill to support and endorse such treaties, contracts
and agreements;
. .
3. That the Republic of China (Taiwan) have the right to
purchase from the United States unlimited supplies, including
weapons;
4. That it is the desire of the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City that a long-term arrangement be made between the government
of the United States and the government of the Republic of China on
a government to government basis and a long-term relationship be
established;
5. That the Republic of China (Taiwan) will be in an equal
position with the United States in any negotiations; and
6. Said Board desires that there be continuing cultural and
commercial exchange between the United States and the Republic of
China (Taiwan) and that said exchange be reassured by the United
States Government.
Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be sent
to Mr. Dewey J. Wong of the Bing Kong Tong Free Masons, Chinese Social
Center, 326 South West Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101, and to
Mr. Chung Huh-ping, Consul General of the Republic of China, 300
Montgomery Street, San Francisco, California 94104.
