Alli i M RESOLUTION. • WHEREAS, the sale of fireworks and pyrotechnical explosives, within the limits of Salt Lake City, has been by ordinance prohibited, and the discharge of fireworks and explosives of every kind and nature has likewise been he forbidden within tliit4py, . e.t, that the Mayor, if shall deem it safe and proper, may grant permission for the display * of fireworks at public celebrations, ,when such exhibitions shall be given under careful supervision, and, WHEPEAS, it is fitting and desirable that the natal day of the nation should be appropriately and patrioti- cally celebrated as the greatest of all holidays, and in such • manner as to impress upon the minds of old and young the true meaning and significance of that great day, and in such a way as to prevent the serious and sometimes fatal accidents which have so often in the past cast a gloom over the celebration of Inddpendence Day; NOW, . TH 2EFORE, Be It Resolved: That the President of this Council appoint a cormittee of fifteen citizens for the purpose of arranging for a proper Fourth of July celebration, and that the Mayor and President of this Council be associated with such ' committee. RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Chief of Police is ,hereby • directed to strictly enforce the ordinance of this city pro- ' hibiting the sale and discharge of fireworks within the city, to the end that all accidents may be prevented and "that S alt Lake City may enjoy the safest', sanest and greatest patriotic celebration in its history. RESOLVED FURTHER, that the City Recorder be and he is hereby directed to transmit to the Chief of Police and to each member of said committee, when appointed, a. copy of this resolution. • .;x
