Expressing appreciation to the
members of the City of Cincinnati
Division of Police for their
assistance in the apprehension of
Joseph Paul Franklin.
WHEREAS, on the evening of August 20, 1980, two outstanding young
men of Salt Lake City, Dave Martin and Ted Fields, were criminally
shot and killed at Liberty Park within Salt Lake City, Utah; and
WHEREAS, through the extended efforts and professional concern for
detail of law enforcement officers throughout the United States the
murder suspect, Joseph Paul Franklin, was apprehended in Florence, Kentucky;
and
WHEREAS, the suspect did escape from custody while he was there being
held for questioning; and
WHEREAS, through the untiring and extended efforts of the members of
the City of Cincinnati Division of Police the route of escape of the
suspect was traced; and
WHEREAS, the route of escape used by the suspect extended into areas
outside the jurisdiction of the City of Cincinnati Division of Patrol; and
WHEREAS, through the untiring and dedicated efforts of the members of
said Division of Police, significant information was gathered and Joseph
Paul Franklin was again apprehended.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of
Salt Lake City, Utah that they hereby express on behalf of Salt Lake City
and its residents their sincere appreciation and respect for the competent
manner in which the City of Cincinnati Division of Police followed through
to assist in bringing Joseph Paul Franklin to account before the bar of
justice and thereby bring peace and safety to the citizens of our great
country.
