RESOLUTION.
:iIIEREAS, on the 7th day of January, 1915, I:Irs. LI. J.
Stewart made application for rooming house keeper's license to
transact business as a rooming house keeper at 209 South State
Street in Salt Lake City, and also for a rooming house keeper's
license for use at 233 South State Street, Salt Lake City, each
for a period of one year from January 1, 1915, and said
applications having been referred to the Chief of Police and the
Chief of Police having on February 5, 1915, made and filed his
report upon said applications together with his recommendation
that such licenses be not granted; and
'1-EREAS, the matter of said application together with
the report of the Chief of Police therein having been set down
for hearing before the Board of Commissioners after due notice
to the parties interested, and a hearing having been had on
the 16th and 17th days of February, A. D. 1915, the Chief of
Police having been represented at said hearing by an assistant
City Attorney, and the applicant for license being present
before the Board together with her attorney, and witnesses
having been sworn, and thorough investigation o' the matter
having been had:
TI0,, 'TIERRF RE, the Board finds that the charges of the
Chief of Police have been sustained to the extent that it was
shown at said hearing that certain of the employees of ] rs. IT.
J. Steward were guilty of selling intoxicating liquor unlawfully
in both of said rooming houses, and that lewd women were per-
mitted to make solicitations for immoral purposes within each
of said houses with the full knowledge and consent of certain
of :.:rs. iatewart's employees; but it further appearing to the
Board that certain of slid employees have been discharged by
1:1rs. P. J. Stewart; and it further appearing that this is the
first time that ..:rs. ;.I. J. Stewart has had complaint made to
this Board against her on account of her conduct of said room-
ing houses or either of them; and in further considerati on of
the fact that said Urs. II. J. Stewart has promised the Chief of
Police and this Board that in future she will make it her busi-
:-ess to more carefully watch the conduct of her employees in
said rooming houses, and will see to it that the unlawful acts
complained of cease and are not permitted to any extent in the
future:
0;: P ERETORE, BE IT RESOLVIM that the applications of
Lars. J. Stewart for licenses for both of said above described
rooming houses, be and the same are hereby anted, and the
assessor and collector of license taxes is/ reby instructed to
issue said licenses upon payment of the f: s accordiIng to law. G
