WHEREAS, a bill has been proposed to the 1975 session of the
Utah State Legislature, which bill is designated as Senate Bill
No. 208; and
WHEREAS, said bill, if enacted into law, would adopt a
state building code and a board of construction appeals appointed
by the governor to interpret and amend said code and promulgate
rules and regulations pursuant thereto; and
WHEREAS, said bill would create the office of state building
official with the power to order work stopped for a violation of
said code within the boundaries of any local jurisdiction within
the state; and
WHEREAS, such a mechanism for adoption, administration and
enforcement of building standards would deny the public the pro-
tection it should have through participation of its local repre-
sentatives in the development and enforcement of such standards.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City does fully disapprove of the passage of Senate Bill No. 208
and does hereby urge the Utah State Legislature to take decisive
and immediate action to defeat said bill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Salt Lake City Recorder
be directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Utah
