Result
RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF A SPECIAL
ELECTION HELD IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, DECEMBER
14, 1977, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER
8 OF TITLE 20, UTAH CODE ANNOTATED, 1953 AS
AMENDED.
WHEREAS, a special election was held December 14, 1977, in Salt
Lake City, Utah, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 20
Utah Code Annotated, 1953 as amended, for which election the registered
voters within Salt Lake City voted upon the following proposition:
"It is proposed that Salt Lake City create a
special Parks and Zoo Fund which will finance
land acquisition and development of parks, ex-
pansion and renovation of Hogle Zoo and Tracy
Aviary, foothill land acquisition and the pre-
servation of historical buildings threatened
with demolition. The Park and Zoo Fund will
be established for a five year period, beginning
July 1, 1978 and ending June 30, 1983. This fund
shall be created by imposing a tax which shall
not exceed Twenty Five Cents (250 per One Hundred
Dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and it is
anticipated that the annual receipts of this fund
shall be $1,075,000 per year.
and,
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, the 20th day of December, 1977, at a
regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
duly and regularly called and held, the said Board of Commissioners,
sitting as a board of canvassers, as required by law, convened and
did publicly canvass the returns of such election and did continue
in session until the same was completed and concluded.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners
of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That it is hereby declared that the result of the
canvass of the votes cast at the said special election held in Salt
Lake City, Utah, Wednesday, the 14th day of December, 1977, is as
follows:
In favor of said proposition above stated: 3,722

Against said proposition above stated: 8,454
Spoiled and invalid ballots: None
Majority against said proposition: 8,454
SECTION 2. That more than a majority of the votes cast at said
special election were cast against said proposition and it is hereby
declared that said proposition failed of approval by a majority of
the registered voters of Salt Lake City, Utah, and the 2-1/2 mill
property tax increase is not approved by the electors.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall take effect and be in full
force from and after its passage and approval and the City Recorder
is directed to forward a copy of the canvass report to the Secretary
of State as provided by law.
Passed and approved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah, this 20th day of December, 1977.
