/ A RESOLUTION LEVYING TAXES UPON ALL REAL AND PERSONAL
PROPERTY WITHIN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, MADE TAXABLE BY
LAW FOR THE YEAR 1961 .
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
That for the purpose of defraying the necessary and proper
expenses of Salt Lake City and maintaining the Government thereof,
there be and there is hereby levied upon all the real and personal
property within Salt Lake City, Utah, made taxable by law, for the
fiscal year ending December 31, 1961 , a tax of 18.5 mills on each
dollar assessed valuation of said property for Salt Lake City
consisting of 17.5 mills for general city purposes and 1 mill for
city interest and sinking fund. In addition to the above, there
is hereby levied upon all the real and personal property within
Salt Lake City, Utah, made taxable by law, for the fiscal year end-
ing December 31 , 1961 , a tax of 4.0 mills for water purification
and sewage disposal and 2.0 mills to maintain public libraries and
reading rooms.
In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is necessary
for the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake
City, Utah, that this Resolution take effect upon its passage, and
an emergency is hereby declared to exist so that said levy may be
made and said tax collected as required by law.
This Resolution shall take effect upon its adoption.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners this 10th day of
August, 1961 .

The following is an excerpt from the minutes of the Library
Board of Directors Meeting, July 20, 1961:
"Attention was called to the fact
that the City Commission would be
setting the levy for the library,
on the second Monday in August. Rev.
Katsaris moved that the Library
Board send a letter to the City
Commission asking for the Library's
full two mills and ecplaining to them
that 1.4 as in the past will be used
to operate the Library, and that the .6
will go into the capital iu rovements
fund to pay for the site of the new
library building, according to the
recommendations of the Citizen's
Committee, which they have accepted.
Mr. Royall seconded the moti..n, which
was passed."
