WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Utah, by the provisions of Chapter 12, Laws of Utah, 1969, First Special Session provided a means whereby a PUBLIC TRANSIT DISTRICT AUTHORITY may be created to serve the community needs of the municipalities and unincorporated areas included within Salt Lake County, Utah; and WHEREAS, on the 2nd day of October, 1969, the City of Salt Lake, pursuant to said enactment of the Legislature, has adopted an ordinance known as Chapter 5, Title 23, of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, relating to the creation of a Public Transit District Authority; and WHEREAS, the Board of City Commissioners, on June 24, 1969, did approve a public transit study at a cost of $60,000; pursuant to the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964, the Government of the United States, upon application, will pay $40,000; and WHEREAS, the Board of City Commissioners, on June 24, 1969, did provide that, upon acquisition of Federal funds, a contract would be entered into between Salt Lake City Corporation and Alan M. Voorhees & Associates, Inc., a District of Columbia corporation, for the public transit study; and WHEREAS, Alan M. Voorhees & Associates, Inc., is a consulting firm which is highly qualified in the field of public transportation; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City Corporation did file an application for a grant with the U. S. Department of Transportation on July 3, 1969, and said application has been approved by the U. S. Government; and WHEREAS, a contract between Salt Lake City Corporation and Alan M. Voorhees has been submitted to Salt Lake City for execution and said contract has been examined by the Salt Lake City Attorney's Office which finds the same to be legally sufficient both as to form and content; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that the Honorable J. Bracken Lee, Mayor of Salt Lake City, be directed and authorized to enter into a contract with Alan M. Voorhees & Associates, Inc., to conduct a public transit study pursuant to the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964.
