Expressing and extending the City
Commission's full and unqualified
support of the Salt Lake City Police
Department, and other agencies of
Salt Lake City, in enforcing the laws
of the city, state and nation, in sup-
pressing and quelling disorder and law-
lessness, in protecting life and property
and in taking whatever steps are reason-
ably necessary to achieve these ends.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the American system of government is based upon the integrity
and dignity of the individual citizen and thus assures a government by law
rather than by men; and,
WHEREAS, there has been throughout the nation widespread disregard
for this fundamental concept of government, resulting in public disorder
and disregard for law and order, bringing in its wake numerous deaths
and personal injuries, and enormous property damages; and,
WHEREAS, basic in such lawlessness is an attitude of contempt for and
antagonism toward the law enforcement agencies necessarily created to en-
force the law and protect life and property; and,
WHEREAS, such agencies are entitled to, and must receive, the full
support of the governing bodies in all branches of government and of the
citizens, individually and collectively; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest that there be an expression
by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City of full support of the
city's law enforcement agencies enforcing the law and protecting the
inhabitants of the city in their persons and property:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, that said Board does hereby express and extend its full and
unqualified support of the Police Department, and other agencies of Salt
Lake City, in enforcing the laws of the city, state and nation; in sup-
pressing and quelling disorder and lawlessness; in protecting life and
property; and in taking whatever steps are reasonably necessary to achieve
these ends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Board does hereby call upon all
persons within the City of Salt Lake City to give like support and to
honor the law and the rights of others.
