I move that the Resolution be adopted. Barker Harmsen Harrison Phillips RESOLUTION Result / WHEREAS, Clarence D. "Scoop" Williams will retire on February 28, 1973, from his employment as a news reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams commenced his employment with the Salt Lake Telegram as a copy boy in 1921 at the age of 15 and shortly thereafter became a news reporter in which capacity he has served continuously with the Salt Lake Telegram and the Salt Lake Tribune since that time; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams is the senior member of the staff employed by the Salt Lake Tribune in years of news service to the residents of Salt Lake City and the State of Utah; and WHEREAS, during his long and able tenure as a news reporter Mr. Williams has met and interviewed many of our country's and the world's leading political, religious, educational and entertainment leaders and has always adhered to the highest principles of accuracy and objectivity in his news reporting, thereby resulting in his recognition in 1965 as the "Dean of Reporters" by Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County officials; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams is married to the former Opal Orrock and they are the parents of three daughters and one son and grandparents of several grandchildren, representative of the family love and traditions which are so much a part of our community strength; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, on its own behalf and on behalf of all the residents of Salt Lake City that it does hereby express to Clarence D. "Scoop" Williams its sincere appreciation and gratitude for his lifetime of public service in reporting the news in the finest traditions of journalistic excellence and for his contribution to our city as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City extend to Mr. Williams its best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement period.
