WHEREAS, the statistics released by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, March 14, 1968, indicate that the crime index for the
United States increased in 1967 over 1966 by 16%; and
WHEREAS, the increase in the crime index ranged from 18% in the
Northeastern and North Central parts of the country to 15% in the
Southern and Western states; and
WHEREAS, by comparison the Salt Lake City crime index involving
major crimes in 1967 was 5.8% less than in 1966; and
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1967 responded
to 66,175 calls for assistance, being approximately 2,000 more than
in 1966, and the number of traffic fatalities in Salt Lake City in
1967 was 13 as compared with 28 in 1966, a decrease of 54%; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing is indicative of effective administra-
tion of the Police Department and devoted, effective service by the
individual members thereof:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that said Board, in its own behalf, and in behalf
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City, hereby expresses to the Police
Department, its administrative heads and personnel, sincere appreciation
and commendation for the efficient and effective service said department
has rendered, and is rendering, to the citizens of Salt Lake City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be delivered
to the Chief of Police as the representative of the Salt Lake City Police
Department.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 2nd day of MR,VO4, 1968.
