CERTIFICATE OF APPOINTMENT AS HONORARY
MAYOR OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH
WHEREAS, in conformity with a People to People International Good Will
Program inaugurated at the White House by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the
City of Matsumoto, Nagano Province, Japan, was declared to be the sister city of
Salt Lake City, Utah; and
WHEREAS, Tokuya Furuhata, Mayor of the City of Matsumoto, did on the
3rd day of July, 1962, visit Salt Lake City and honor the Board of Commissioners
of Salt Lake City with his presence at a regular session of said Board of Com—
missioners, and did bring the greetings and good will of the citizens of the sister
City of Matsumoto; and
WHEREAS, to more fully express the appreciation of the citizens of
Salt Lake City for this expression of good will from the citizens of our sister
city and to honor their representative the Mayor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT
LAKE CITY:
That Mayor Tokuya Furuhata of the City of Matsumoto, Japan, is hereby
appointed Honorary Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah, and granted the keys of the
city, together with the warmest felicitations for the prosperity and happiness
of the people of our sister city.
