RESOLUTION
Result . . . .
WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Zoological Garden is now the third
largest tourist attraction in the State of Utah; and
WHEREAS, plans have been formulated for a substantial expansion
of said Zoo which will add greatly to the attractiveness, character
and educational value of said Zoo to both residents and tourists;
and
WHEREAS, a comprehensive professional study has been made of the
revenue producing possibilities of said Zoo, as so expanded, which
study reveals that the income from paid admissions to said Zoo will be
ample to pay all cost of maintenance and operation and the principal
and interest on bonds payable over a period of ten or more years,
to finance the payment of the construction involved in the contemplated
expansion of said Zoo resulting in no cost in the form of taxes; and
WHEREAS, said Zoo as now constructed is not adequate to accommo-
date the visiting public; and
WHEREAS, by action of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City
a special election has been authorized to be held April 16, 1968, in
Salt Lake City to determine whether the city should be authorized to
issue and sell its bonds in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 for
the purpose of paying the cost of constructing buildings and making
improvements as contemplated in the plans for the expansion of said
Zoo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that said Board does hereby give unqualified
support to the program to expand said Zoo and does hereby recommend
to the residents and qualified electors of Salt Lake City that they
vote in favor of said bond issue to provide the funds necessary for
such expansion, thereby adding substantially to the cultural, educa-
tional, recreational and tourist potential of Salt Lake City and the
State of Utah.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 9th day of April, 1968.
