WHEREAS, Melvin Joseph Ballard, one of our respected citi-
zens, departed this life on the 30th day of July, 1939; and
WHEREAS, the people of Utah have joined in common bereave-
ment in the passing of our friend and brother. May the Lord assuage
the sorrow of all who mourn his passing; and
WHEREAS, his life is regarded as one of the most notable
in church history. He was in a large measure responsible for the
growth and success of the Boy Scouts of America and Church Welfare
Program and was a great spiritual leader as well as a brilliant
executive.
, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commission-
ers of Salt Lake City express their profound condolences upon the
death of Melvin Joseph Ballard. He was loved by our citizens and
his passing has been a great loss to us. We shall remember his un-
tiring efforts in the cause of humanity.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon
the minutes of the Board of Commissioners and that a copy be forwarded
to Mrs. Ballard and members of the amily.
