Dear Governor Hampton:
Here is a resolution, passed by the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City, Utah, urging that you veto Senate Bill No. 187,
providing increased retirement benefits for city firemen.
This will-impose an additional financial burden upon the City of
approximately$235,000.00 per year, which Salt Lake City is
unable to assume.
Your earnest consideration of this resolution will be greatly
appreciated.

RESOLUTION
Result .
WHEREAS, the recently adjourned Legislature of the State of
Utah passed Senate Bill No. 187 providing for increased retirement
benefits for city firemen; and
WHEREAS, said legislation will impose an additional financial
burden upon Salt Lake City of approximately $235,000 per year; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature did not provide Salt Lake City with
the means to pay such additional costs except through the imposition
of increased property taxes which is unacceptable to the people and
elected officials of Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, said Legislature was totally unresponsive to the
financial condition and needs of Salt Lake City and other cities of
this state; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Calvin L. Rampton, Governor of the State
of Utah, has the right and power to veto Senate Bill No. 187 and to
ask for a special session of said Legislature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY on its own behalf and in behalf of the residents of
Salt Lake City:
1. That said Board requests Governor Calvin L. Rampton to
exercise his veto power with respect to Senate Bill No. 187 to prevent
the same from becoming law.
2. That said Board requests Governor Calvin L. Rampton to call
a special session of the Legislature to consider the financial needs
of Salt Lake City and other cities of the State of Utah and to provide
an equitable solution thereto without an increase in real property
taxes.
3. That a copy of this resolution be delivered immediately to
the Honorable Calvin L. Rampton, Governor of the State of Utah.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 18th day of March, 1971. 3
