17 of 1973 - A resolution supporting the Central City Re-development Project in the designated nine block area of Resolution tio._12_7_ .„ • • By,Iermings Jr. COMPAISSION1131 Supperting the Central City Re- development Project in the designated nine block area of Central City. • Presented to the Board of Commissioners AND PASSED MAR 1 4 1973 AMON& b"q44 crry RECO , I I rr ROLL CALL VOTING Aye Nay Salt Lake City,Utah, March 14 ,19 73 Mr.Chairman I move that the Resolution be adop •d. ` Barker + / Harmsen Harrison {� Phillips `•R SOLUTION Result // RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CENTRAL CITY REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has responded to the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Project Selection System in an effort to establish eligibility and need for a redevelopment project in the Central City Area, and WHEREAS, the result of the Project Selection System submission was that the need was greatest in the Central City area when compared with all other proposed project areas in the six states of HUD Region VIII, and WHEREAS, it is the City's intent as set forth in the Community Improvement Program to stabilize through rehabilitation and selective clearance the character of the Central City residential neighborhood, and WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City would be assigned the responsibility and authority of conducting such a project, and WHEREAS, the property acquired and cleared would be made available to the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City for construction of low-income public housing for families on a dispersed basis, and WHEREAS, it is estimated that clearance of vacant and grossly substandard structures will provide land sufficient for approximately fifty low-income public housing units, and WHEREAS, public improvements and rehabilitation of residential units will also be involved in the initial year of activity within the designated nine block area, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that additional funds may be necessary for activities subsequent to July 1, 1974, and WHEREAS, should such be the case and should the City be eligible for and receive Community Development Revenue Sharing or similar assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development or other Federal agencies, a portion of such funds will be utilized to further to completion redevelopment activities in the Central City area, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY CORPORATION, that we do hereby reaffirm our intent to carry out and support the proposed redevelopment project in the designated nine block area of Central City; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we expect this project to be very beneficial to the community, not only in rehabilitating and stabilizing a deteriorating residential neighborhood, but also in furthering the City's efforts to provide low-income housing on a dispersed basis.
