Douglas Military Reservation, owned and maintained by the United States Government for use of the War Department, is entirely within the limits of Salt Lake City, and WHEREAS, but a small portion of said reservation is occupied, improved and used at the present time, and WHEREAS, it is highly desirable that a portion of said reservation adjacent to the built up section of Salt Lake City be improved and utilized for park purposes for the benefit of all the inhabitants of said city, NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved ghat the Board of Com- missioners do hereby request of the United States Government that a tract of land at least three hundred acres in extent in the north- west portion of said Ft. Douglas Military Reservation, be conveyed to Salt Lake City to be improved and maintained as a public park, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mayor and City Attorney be, and they are hereby directed to take such steps as may be nec- essary to bring this matter to the attention of the Congress of the United States and the proper officials of the War Department, and follow the matter to a successful conclusion. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City it is necessary to the health, peace and safety of the in- habitants of said city that this resolution take effect immediately.
