Mn Chairman Y RESOLUTION Result . . . . /' WHEREAS, the issue of whether or not Salt Lake City Corporation should fluoridate its water supply is by an initiative and referendum being presented to the electors of Salt flake City for determination by vote in the coming general election to be held on November 7, 1961; and WHEREAS, it has been deemed advisable by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City to publish the cost to the Salt Lake City Corporation of adding fluorides to its water supply in order to fully apprise and inform the electors of the additional cost of water to the water users of Salt Lake City Corporation, if by their vote in said election the electors determine that said city should fluoridate its water supply; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, that based on estimates and cost figures obtained from the Water Department of Salt Lake City Corporation, as determined from a thorough and exhaustive study of fluoridation costs which have been determined as nearly as possible without the benefit of preliminary engineering design, which would be costly before the issue of fluori- dation is determined, it is hereby declared as follows: 1 . That the approximate initial cost of purchasing, installing and housing of fluoridation equipment, plus cost of the chemicals and the operation and maintenance of the fluoridation equipment necessary to properly fluoridate the 19 existing separate sources of supply of water of Salt Lake City Corporation, for the first year of operation would be $416,000.00. 2. That the annual cost thereafter of chemicals, cost of the operation and maintenance of the fluoridation equipment, and the cost of a reserve for depreciation of the equipment already in use, would be approximately $115,500.00. 3. That based upon the foregoing initial and annual costs of fluoridation, the average additional cost per connection to the Salt 4 - 2 - Lake City water system, whether within or without the city limits, will be approximately $7.00 for the first year and approximately $2.00 per year thereafter. 4. That assuming the water consumption of Salt Lake City remains the same as at the present time, the additional cost of water per water connection for the first year of fluoridation will be approximately 14% and for each year thereafter, the additional cost per connection will be 4%. For example, a water connection where the use as shown by the meter costs the user $50.00 annually under the present rates, such user would have to pay a water bill of $57.00 for the first year of fluoridation and for each year thereafter his water bill would be $52.00 per year to cover the expense of fluoridation.
