WHEREAS, Miss Ethel Macdonald, because of poor health,
has tendered her resignation to the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City as City recorder; and
WHEREAS, Miss Macdonald has served Salt Lake City continu-
ously and faithfully in the City Recoro.er's office for a period of
forty-four years; first as a teen-aged typist and stenographer,
then chief clerk, and since 1927 as City Recorder; and
P;HEiEAS, she, being possessed with the ability and neces-
sary qualifications to make a fine and capable public servant, has
through many years of hard work and devotion to duty progressed.rapic-
ly in her office, becoming more and more adept in the discharge of
her many duties; having always at her finger tips every detail of
city business, until now she is all but indispensable to the smooth
and efficient handling of the cityts affairs.
She has never once in her many years of service failed or
forgotten to properly bring to the attention of the various city
commissions, under which she has so well served, items requiring
their attention on dates certain as prescribed by law. No responsi-
bility devolving upon her was ever neglected or unfulfilled. No
demand upon her time and service by city officers, employees, or
the public was ever ignored. She is plain and unpretentious of
manner, abounding in human sympathies, and in her meticulous and
efficient method trained her office force and clerks to perform
their duties well and exacting.
In the resignation of hiss Ethel Macdonald, Salt Lake
City loses one of its ablest and most consistent officers, whose
long career of service is conspicuously married by a faithful
devotion to the interests of her city.

al association which it has greatly prized throughout the years,
