Result
DECLARING THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, PUBLIC HEALTH BUILDING, FIRE
STATION NO. 1, AND THE CtTY JAIL OBSOLETE AND INADEQUATE FOR PRESENT AND
FUTURE NEEDS OF SALT LAKE CITY.
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City for many years has owned the property on
the Southeast Corner of First South and State Street, commonly referred to
as the Public Safety Building, Health Building, Fire Station No. 1 and the
City Jail; and
WHEREAS, on the 29th day of December, 1959, a public hearing was
held at which meting the Board of Commissioners received reports from the
Fire Chief, the Police Chief, the Health Commissioner, the City Planning
Director and the City Engineer that such buildings are inadequate and obsolete
and have been for many years; that they are not capable of being satisfact-
orily reconditioned to meet the present needs of Salt Lake City and that
they are incapable of being expanded to adequately serve the present and
future needs of Salt Lake City; and
WHEREAS, at said public hearing other citizens of Salt Lake pity
expressed opinions to the same effect, to-wit, that the said buildings
are inadequate and obsolete and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is now fully advised in the
premises.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH:
1. That the city owned property in Block 71, Plat "AY, Salt Lake
City Survey, commonly known as the Public Safety Building, Public Health
Building, Fire Station No. 1, and the City Jail is obsolete and inadequate
for the present and future needs of the city.
2. That the property be replaced with adequate, suitable and modern
structures.
3. That the situs of the said property is not suited to the erection
of new structures by Salt Lake City because the location does not conform
to proper city planning for the location of said facilities.

4. The situs of the property declared by this resolution to be
obsolete and inadequate is legally described as follows:
Beginning at the northwest corner of Lot 5, Block 71,
Plat A, Salt Lake City Survey, and running thence East
449 feet, thence South 145 feet, thence West 116 feet along the
north line of a 20 foot right of way; thence South 83 feet along
the west line of a 10 foot right of way; thence West 85.5 feet
along the north line of a 39 foot right of way; thence North
63 feet along the west face of a masonry wall , common to
property to the west; thence West 247.5 feet; thence North 165
feet to point of beginning, subject to the following described
right of way for vehicular use described as follows:
Beginning at the Southwest corner of above mentioned Lot 5;
thence North 12 feet; thence East 129.5 feet; thence South
12 feet; thence West 129.5 feet to point of beginning and to-
gether with a right of way insofar as it is appurtenant to the
above property for vehicular use, described as follows:
Beginning at a point 76.5 feet South from the Northwest Corner
of Lot 4, said Block 71, thence East 100 feet; North 3 feet,
East 147.5 feet, North 10.5 feet, East 85.5 feet, North 83
feet, East 162 feet, South 20 feet, West 152 feet, South 63
feet, East 152 feet, South 39 feet, West 247.5 feet, North
10.5 feet, West 147.5 feet, North 3 feet, West 100 feet,
and North 12 feet to point of beginning.
