Result RESOLUTION
•
WHEREAS, the late Dan Cunningham, affectionately called "Big Dan", by
profession a master mechanic employed by the Denver Rio Grande & Western
Railroad Company, for years contributed his time and talents as a mechanic
in assisting the Salt Lake City Fire Department with its mechanical equip-
ment; and,
WHEREAS, acting as a member of a citizens' committee he rendered a
great service to the fire department in procuring for the department fire
fighting equipment, including a 100 foot aerial ladder truck; and,
WHEREAS, in appreciation of his efforts said aerial ladder truck
became known as "Big Dan"; and,
WHEREAS, said ladder truck became a potent instrument in fighting
fires over the years and carried a bell making loud and resonant tones
as the truck proceeded to answer fire calls; and,
WHEREAS, said ladder truck has been dismantled and the bell removed,
and it is the desire of the Board of City Commissioners to present said
bell to Dorothy Cunningham, a daughter of "Big Dan" Cunningham for the
Dan Cunningham Family Organization.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah, that said board does hereby express its deep and sincere
appreciation for the valuable service rendered by Dan Cunningham during
his lifetime to the Fire Department of Salt Lake City, and it does hereby
present to Dorothy Cunningham, his daughter, for the Dan Cunningham Family
Organization, the said bell as a token and symbol of appreciation and to
do honor to the memory of "Big" Dan Cunningham.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver to Dorothy Cunningham
a copy of this resolution.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
18th day of July, 1967.
