and respect for the life , A t, public service of former Commissioner
Barnes. Fe lived a life of usefulness. 'is interests were with
the _:neat mass of people and he endeavored according to his oest
understanding to serve them, and this he did in an honest and con-
scientious manner.
Barnes was elected a member of the City Council of
this city from the Third ;.unicioal :i rd, first in 1897 and again
in 1903, and served a period of six years as councilman. In 1920
he was appointed by the board of Commissioners of alt Lake City
as a member of this board to fill en unexpired term and at the
election of 1921 he was elected by the people of the entire city
to continue in that office, which he did for four years longer.
During the entire period of his incumbency as a commissioner he
acted as Commissioner of Public Safety. He enjoyed the confidence
of the people to a marked degree because of his loyalty and rugged
honesty. He will be long remembered as a faithful and diligent
public servant.
We extend to his widow and family our heartfelt sympathy.
A man of sterling worth has passed to the great beyond.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be
spread upon the minutes of the board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
