RESOLUTIO1'T
WHEREAS, the members of the BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, STATE OF UTAH, are convinced that the linking together
of the lines of Great Northern Railway and The Western Pacific Rail-
road Company, to be effected by the extension by Great Northern Railway
of its line of' railroad from Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Lookout, Cal-
ifornia, and the extension by The Western Pacific Railroad Company of
its line from Keddie, California, to Lookout, California, will be of
great value to the people and industries of this state and will prove
an important factor in the further development of Utah, Nevada and the
Pacific Coast states; and
WHEREAS, said hoard of City Commissioners is convinced that
railroad competition is vital to the industrial growth of this state and
that any development that will insure such result must be actively en-
couraged and welcomed:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that said Board of City Commis-
sioners of Salt Lake City, State of Utah, request and urge, and it does
hereby request and urge the Interstate Commerce Commission to grant the
respective applications of said Great Northern Railway and The lectern
Pacific Railroad Company for certificates of public convenience and nec-
essity for constructing said extensions; and
BE IT RESOLVED that said board of City Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, State of Utah, intervene before said Interstate Commerce com-
mission in behalf of said Great Northern Railway and said The Western
Pacific Railroad Company and their said applications and that the Mayor
of said Salt Lake City, Utah, be and he is hereby authorized and direct-
ed to appoint such person as persons as he may consider suitable to ap-
pear before said Interstate Commerce Commission and intervene as afore-
said for and in behalf of said Board of City Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah, and to do whatever may appear proper and necessary looking
toward the granting of said applications of said Great Northern Railway
and The Western Pacific Railroad Company; and
BE I'T FURTHER RESOLVED that said Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah,
be and he is hereby directed to forward to the Interstate Commerce Com-
mission at Washington, D. C., a copy of this resolution duly certified
by him.
Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
25th day of June, A. D. 1929.
