f OF APPRECIATION
World
WHEREAS, there was held the first/Conference on Records
organized by the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City in 1969, at which seven
members of the International Academy of Heraldry were in attendance;
and
WHEREAS, on August 8, 1969, said members of the International
Academy of Heraldry celebrated a special meeting during said con-
ference at which it was resolved to provide Salt Lake City with a
coat-of-arms considering good heraldic customs in a correct style
to contain symbolized elements inspired by local history and tradi-
tion as an everlasting mark in memory of the first World Conference
on Records; and
WHEREAS, the resolution of said members was approved by the
International Academy of Heraldry in Paris, France, on August 12,
1969; and
WHEREAS, on September 9, 1969, the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City approved the proposed coat-of-arms; and
WHEREAS, on May 5, 1970, there was submitted to the City by
the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints a completed Coat-of-Arms and Scroll prepared by the Inter-
national Academy of Heraldry in accordance with the foregoing which
was approved and accepted by the City as its official emblem;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF SALT LAKE CITY that said Board, on behalf of the residents of
Salt Lake City, express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to
the International Academy of Heraldry and the foregoing seven members

thereof, to-wit, Andre' G. Prive of France, Szaboles de Vajay of
Hungary, don Vicente de Cadenas of Spain, Dr. Olivier Clottu of
Switzerland, Dr. Hans Richard von Fels of Switzerland, Professor
Dr. Hanns Jager-Sunstenau of Austria and Dr. Cornelis Pama of South
Africa for their thoughtfulness and academic dedication to the
preparation and completion of a duly registered Coat-of-Arms
symbolic of local history and tradition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT
LAKE CITY that said Board, on behalf of the residents of Salt Lake
City, express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the
Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints and the following officers thereof, to-wit, Howard W. Hunter,
President, Theodore M. Burton, Vice President, Paul F. Royall,
General Secretary, and Fred H. Barth, Research Specialist, for their
valuable assistance and dedicated efforts to bring to fruition the
adoption of the foregoing Coat-of-Arms as the official emblem of
Salt Lake City.
IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
be delivered in person or by mail to the institutions and persons
hereinabove named as an expression of appreciation for their inspired
efforts in this matter.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 21st day of May, 1970.
