BRACKEN LEE COMMISSIONER Appreciation on behalf of Sam Shortino for the outstanding and valuable service: he has rendered tithe inhabitans of Salt , Lake City, and in his splendid efforts '1 in making an effective contribution for the underprivileged and needy citizens of the community. OF APPRECIATION WHEREAS, Sam Shortino was born in Italy in 1886, migrated to the United States of America in 1903, was first employed by a meat packing company in Kansas City, Missouri, and later by the railroad in Cheyenne, Wyoming; and WHEREAS, through hard work and thrift he went into business for himself in Cheyenne and through judicious business ability and dili- gent attention to his business affairs he has been a successful businessman for 63 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Shortino has been willing to share the fruits of his labors with person who have been underprivileged and in dire need; and WHEREAS, even though he has been wounded and beaten by robbers on several occasions, he bears no malice toward his assailants and he continues to be actively engaged in doing good for his neighbor- hood; and WHEREAS, he has three times been President of the Italian-American Civic League, a member of the Footprinters and a member of the Advisory Board of Central City; and WHEREAS, Mr. Shortino's biography strikingly characterizes the American Dream; and WHEREAS, through his offices and services, he has rendered out- standing and valuable services to Salt Lake City and its inhabitants: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that said Board on behalf of itself and on behalf of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City, does hereby express to Mr. Sam Shortino its appreciation for his splendid efforts in making an effective contribution for the underprivileged and needy citizens of this community. Said Board extends its best wishes and the hope that the future will bring him further enjoyment and satisfaction.
