Dear Commissioner Greener;
The Board of City Commissioners, at its meeting today, passed
Resolution No.27 of 1979, extending an invitation to the government
and the people of the City of Keelung, Republic of China, to participate
with Salt Like City as its Sister City for the purpose of creating mutual
understanding between the peoples of these two great cities and nations.

RESOLUTION
Result
WHEREAS, the Sister City Concept was inaugurated by the President
of the United States in 1956 to establish greater friendship and
understanding between the peoples of the United States and other
nations through the medium of direct personal contact; and
WHEREAS, all succeeding United States Presidents have endorsed
said program, to be conducted for the broad purposes of the exchange
of ideas and people between the citizens of the United States of
America and the peoples of other nations; and
WHEREAS, to implement this program Salt Lake City and other
communities in the United States have been requested by Sister Cities
International to affiliate with cities in other nations of similar
characteristics and mutual interests; and
WHEREAS, the City of Salt Lake, through its Commission, does
recognize and endorse this program with the hope that it will lead
to a lasting friendship between the people of Salt Lake City and the
City of Keelung, Republic of China;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City, Utah, as follows:
1. That this Commission, on behalf of the people of Salt Lake
City, does hereby extend an invitation to the government and the
people of the City of Keelung, Republic of China, to participate
with Salt Lake City as its Sister City for the purpose of creating
greater mutual understanding between the peoples of our two great
cities and nations.
2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to act as official repre-
sentative of Salt Lake City to carry out this program.
3. That copies of this Resolution are to be sent to the
Mayor and Council of the City of Keelung, Republic of China; Sister
Cities International in Washington, D.C.; Consul General Chung

Hu-ping; the Embassy of the Republic of China, and the United
States Embassy in the Republic of China.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 26th day of April, 1979.
