Catmull . . . ✓ Gam . . . . / Harrison . . . / Y / Chairman .Ma / RESOLUTION Result . . . . WHEREAS, the House Ways and Means Committee of the United States Congress is presently considering legislation which would tax the interest on municipal bonds; and WHEREAS, the tax exempt status of such bonds is absolutely essential in order to preserve the continued ability of cities to finance capital improvements; and WHEREAS, local financial resources are presently in critical need of preservation; and WHEREAS, the taxing of interest on municipal bonds would shift the burden of the additional cost for municipal improvements directly to local property taxpayers; and WHEREAS, the increase in interest paid through local property taxes would far exceed the new revenue to be derived by the federal legislation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that said board is irrevocably opposed to any proposed federal legislation which directly or indirectly impinges upon the tax exempt status of municipal bonds. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted by the City Recorder to each member of Congress from the State of Utah and to the House Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representatives.
