28 of 1981 - Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with the Counties and Cities of Salt Lake and Davis Counties and ce RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Utah Cities, Counties and certain service districts
have the legal responsibilities under the Utah Solid Waste
Management Act (Utah Code, Chapter 35) to protect the public
health and safety, to conserve resources, and to improve the
environment by control of air, water, and land pollution; and
WHEREAS, the development of solid waste management
facilities which are able to recover energy and other resources
from solid waste is an important method of fulfilling said
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, consolidation of waste management services may
avoid duplication of such waste management facilities, achieve
greater cost efficiencies, and enhance environmental protection;
and
WHEREAS, the Counties and Cities of Salt Lake and Davis
Counties wish to enter into an agreement to review such a
consolidation in order to determine the appropriateness of and
the most appropriate means for such consolidation of services;
and
WHEREAS, Title 11, Chapter 13, Utah Code Annotated, 1953, as
amended, allows such parties to enter into a cooperative agree-
ment of mutual advantage to provide services and facilities in
the best interests of their needs and development and to provide
the benefit of economy of scale.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Salt
Lake City does hereby accept and approve the above-referenced and
hereto-attached Interlocal Agreement for and on behalf of Salt
Lake City and authorizes the Mayor to execute the same.
