RESOLUTION
Result . . . .
WHEREAS, in recent years there has been a tremendous growth in
the population of Salt Lake County, Utah, outside the incorporated
area of Salt Lake City, and other incorporated municipalities in the
County; and,
WHEREAS, such growth in population has necessitated the extension
of services to such unincorporated areas similar to the services pro-
vided by the incorporated municipalities and has created problems of
police and fire protection similar to those existing in unincorporated
areas; and,
WHEREAS, the furnishing of such additional services and protection
require additional funds and administrative functions and personnel and
the burden therefore falls unequally upon Salt Lake City and the other
municipalities of the County and has also impeded annexation to the
various municipalities; and,
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City it is necessary that a study should be made of the problems thus
created within the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City and County and
other areas in the State to the end that proper legislation may be
devised to properly meet and solve the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that the Legislature of the State of Utah in its
1965 session be, and it hereby is, requested to appoint a legislative
committee to study the problems inhering in the population growth of
the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City and County, and other locali-
ties in the State, and recommend to the Legislature such legislation
as may be needed and desirable to properly solve the problems and
-2-
to remove inequities in the financial requirements and the inadequacies
now existing under present legislation and administration.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
13th day of October, 1964.
