RESOLUTION 7/
//
WHEREAS, the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City, Utah, and its
neighboring communities, north and south, along the Wasatch front, in
recent years have had a rapid growth in both population and industry
involving approximately three quarter million inhabitants; and,
WHEREAS, the merchants and industries located in said area have
created and carried on an ever increasing business with persons located
in foreign countries so that now such business involves many hundreds
of thousands of dollars annually and is of sufficient volume to justify
a customs office in Salt Lake City; and,
WHEREAS, great difficulty, inconvenience and loss have resulted
from the lack of a customs office in Salt Lake City to process the
goods, merchandise and industrial products generated by the trade with
foreign countries, and frequently customs personnel from San Francisco,
California, and Denver, Colorado, have had to come to Salt Lake City
to perform customs duties at great expense and delay:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that it does hereby request the Bureau of Customs
to establish forthwith a customs office in Salt Lake City to properly
and adequately and economically provide for the ever expanding needs
of the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City and its neighboring com-
munities.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
24th day of August, 1967.
