RESOLUTION 7/ // WHEREAS, the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City, Utah, and its neighboring communities, north and south, along the Wasatch front, in recent years have had a rapid growth in both population and industry involving approximately three quarter million inhabitants; and, WHEREAS, the merchants and industries located in said area have created and carried on an ever increasing business with persons located in foreign countries so that now such business involves many hundreds of thousands of dollars annually and is of sufficient volume to justify a customs office in Salt Lake City; and, WHEREAS, great difficulty, inconvenience and loss have resulted from the lack of a customs office in Salt Lake City to process the goods, merchandise and industrial products generated by the trade with foreign countries, and frequently customs personnel from San Francisco, California, and Denver, Colorado, have had to come to Salt Lake City to perform customs duties at great expense and delay: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that it does hereby request the Bureau of Customs to establish forthwith a customs office in Salt Lake City to properly and adequately and economically provide for the ever expanding needs of the metropolitan area of Salt Lake City and its neighboring com- munities.
