RESOLUTION
Result
WHEREAS, a bill has been proposed to the 1975 Session of the Utah
State Legislature, which bill is designated as Senate Bill No. 75; and
WHEREAS, said bill, if enacted into law, would allow police and
other public enforcement officers to issue citations for misdemeanor vio-
lations in lieu of arrest or in lieu of the filing and service of a criminal
complaint and summons; and
WHEREAS, such a mechanism is a means of avoiding unnecessary expense
and delay often involved in arrest or formal summons procedure; and
WHEREAS, a misdemeanor citation system would be a substantial contri-
bution to the efficiency of law enforcement activities in the State.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City does
hereby resolve that it does fully approve of the passage of Senate Bill No.
75 and does hereby urge the Utah State Legislature to take decisive and
immediate action to adopt said bill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Salt Lake City Recorder be directed
to forward a copy of this resolution to the Utah State Legislature.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
28th day of January, 1975.
