WHEREAS, there are numerous residents of Salt Lake City who are
desirous of using Utah Transit Authority during off-peak hours; and
WHEREAS, many of said people are old or infirm or on limited
incomes; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that these people be assisted in obtain-
ing mobility without increasing their costs; and
WHEREAS, the Board of City Commissioners believe it is desirable
to implement a no-fare transit program during off-peak hours of the
Utah Transit Authority to aid the needs of the above mentioned groups
and other people similarly situated, living within the bounds of Salt
Lake City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY in its own behalf, and in behalf of the residents of
Salt Lake City, that the Board does hereby request that the Utah
Transit Authority implement off-peak no-fare transit for its operations
within the State, but particularly within Salt Lake City's corporate
limits, and that if necessary the Transit Authority make whatever
cuts in services are necessary to be made after public hearings.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this
Resolution to the Utah Transit Authority.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 4th day of May, 1976.
