WHEREAS, the City installed new stop signs at the intersection
of 17th East and 17th South Street; and
WHEREAS, many drivers in that area drove from habit and not
observation; and
WHEREAS, there were many citations issued for failing to obey
the stop signs; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it in the best interests of
the public to treat these citations as warning citations.
NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in the City
Commission under Section 10-6-16, Utah Code Annotated 1953, the Board
of Salt Lake City Commissioners hereby orders the remittance of all
fines and forfeitures paid for violations of failing to stop at the
stop signs installed on 17th East and 17th South, which citations were
issued on April 8, 1976, only and attached hereto as Exhibit "A". The
appropriate departments, including, but not limited to, the Traffic
Violations Bureau, the City Prosecutor's Office and the Finance De-
partment, are hereby directed to take action to remit all fines and
forfeitures and to treat all other citations issued on April 8, 1976
and attached hereto as Exhibit "A", for failing to obey a stop sign
at 17th East and 17th South, as warning tickets and dismiss them accord-
ingly. For all reports of violations for the said offense on said
day which have been reported to the State, the Traffic Violations
Bureau is hereby directed to send a correction notice to the State.
