RESOLUTION
Result . . . .
WHEREAS, J. E. Garn departed from this life on the 19th day of
July, 1971, at the age of 78; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garn was the first person in the State of Utah to
hold a Utah pilot's license and had devoted many years of his life
to public service; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garn was the founder and first director of aero-
nautics for the State of Utah and Regional Supervisor of eleven
other western states for the Bureau of Air Commerce, having among
other duties the technical supervision of all airports in the
western United States; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garn has been active in aeronautic circles and
in other numerous ways contributed much to the development of aviation
in the State of Utah and in the western United States because of his
abilities as a pilot, his knowledge of aviation matters and his back-
ground as an engineer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garn was active in professional, community and
civic organizations in this community, and in his passing the City of
Salt Lake has lost one of its respected and valued citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, in its own behalf, and in behalf of the residents of
Salt Lake City, that the Board does hereby express to Mrs. J. E. Garn
and the children and heirs of Mr. and Mrs. Garn, its deep and sincere
thanks and appreciation for the many contributions made during his
life to this community.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this
Resolution of Appreciation and Condolence to the family of Mr. Garn
as an expression of our sympathy for the loss they have sustained in
his passing.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 21st day of July, 1971.
