40 of 1980 - A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, CONGRATULATING THE RESIDENTS OF WEST // RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, CONGRATULATING THE RESIDENTS OF WEST VALLEY CITY ON THEIR SUCCESSFUL INCORPORATION, WELCOMING WEST VALLEY CITY TO THE SALT LAKE VALLEY AS ITS NEWEST MUNICIPALITY, ENUNCIATING CERTAIN ADVANTAGES THAT WILL ACCRUE TO ITS RESIDENTS, AND EXPRESSING THE INTENTION TO COOPERATE WITH ITS OFFICIALS TO ASSURE ITS FUTURE SUCCESS AND VIABILITY. WHEREAS, pursuant to a special election, certain residents of Salt Lake County voted to incorporate into West Valley City, effective July 1, 1980; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Mayor and Council of Salt Lake City to develop good will with its neighboring municipali- ties and to cooperate with them wherever possible; and WHEREAS, the residents of West Valley City have demonstrated their sense of civic pride and community involvement through the creation of their new government; and WHEREAS, the residents of West Valley City have secured for themselves a representative and responsive government that is capable of providing them with the level of services and types of programs they want efficiently and economically; and WHEREAS, the residents of West Valley City have also assured for themselves the right to actively participate in the public dialogue and decision-making processes affecting their common interests; and WHEREAS, the autonomy that West Valley City now exercises over such vital functions as planning and zoning and parks and recreation assures local control over the quality of life in its neighborhoods as well as over the future of its commercial and industrial development; and WHEREAS, West Valley City is now capable of providing its residents with efficient and cost-effective service delivery through setting its own priorities and planning and managing its own budgetary process; and WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has already demonstrated its confi- dence in the future of West Valley City by entering into two Interlocal Cooperation Agreements to assist in the establishment of its police department, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of Salt Lake City commend the residents of West Valley City on their recent incorporation and look forward to working with their offi- cials in a cooperative manner to best serve the interests of all of the residents of the Salt Lake Valley.
