/
WHEREAS, Little Cottonwood Creek constitutes one of the major
sources of water supply presently used to supply water to the
residents of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County; and,
WHEREAS, it is contemplated to use the waters of Millcreek as
an additional source of water supply in connection with the construc-
tion of which has been approved by the Army Engineers, Division Office
in San Francisco, Californian and,
WHEREAS, there are certain portions of the canyons through which
said creeks flow which are being sought by real estate interests for
subdivision purposes; and,
WHEREAS, the development of said canyon lands into year round
residential subdivisions would create sanitary and streem pollution
problems seriously affecting the quality of the water of said creeks;
and,
WHEREAS, the lands comprising said canyons ought to be preserved
for their beauty and their utility to the public generally as a place
of recreation and relaxation; and,
WHEREAS, to best preserve these lands for these purposes they
should be made a part of the Wasatch National Forest:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that it hereby requests the members of the
Congress of the United States representing the State of Utah to intro-
duce and sponsor legislation in the Congress to authorize the purchase
of said canyon lands by the Federal Government and make the same a
part of the Wasatch National Forest. Said lands are situated in Salt
Lake County, Utah, and are generally located and described as follows:
One tract located in the head of Millcreek Canyon, being Sec. 32, Si
of Sec. 33, T1S, R3E, totaling 970 acres; and a tract located in
Little Cottonwood Canyon containing approximately 700 acres, situated
in Sec. 12, T3S, R1E, and Secs. 7, 8 and 9, T3S, R2E.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded
to each member of the Utah Congressional Delegation, Washington, D.C.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 29th day of December, 1966.
