OF CONDOLENCE
WHEREAS, Jessie Evans Smith departed from this life on the 3rd day
of August, 1971 at the age of 68; and
WHEREAS, she has devoted most of her life in bringing joy and hap-
piness to others through her songs, beginning her long career in singing
at the age of six which lead to various roles in opera and as a soloist
for many years with the Tabernacle Choir of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latterday Saints; and
WHEREAS, she was an example of womanly companionship and motherhood
to her family and the community; and
WHEREAS, in her passing, the City of Salt Lake has lost one of its
respected and valued citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS of
Salt Lake City, in its own behalf and in behalf of the residents of Salt
Lake City, that the Board does hereby express its deep and sincere thanks
and appreciation for the many contributions made to this community during
the life of Jessie Evans Smith.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this Reso-
lution of Condolence to the family of Mrs. Smith as an expression of our
sympathy for the loss sustained in her passing.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah this
10th day of August, 1971.
