Mr. Chairman . ✓ RESOLUTION Result . . . WHEREAS, there exist in Salt Lake City a great number of dwell- ings presently occupied by tenants, which are unsanitary and unsafe or otherwise in violation of local health and housing codes; and WHEREAS, it would greatly facilitate the attempt to improve the housing situation in Salt Lake City if these violations, when reduced to a criminal complaint, could be immediately heard by the court; and WHEREAS, effective and competent prosecution of these offenders can only be maintained if witnesses are available and if landlords responsible for the violations are made to justly answer for maintain- ing the condition. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF ' SALT LAKE CITY that said Board does hereby urge that the courts make every effort to expedite the hearing of these types of cases by giving them priority trial settings so that they may be expeditiously heard to assure the availability of witnesses and supportive evidence. This Board does further resolve that the City Prosecutor and the Board of Health not recommend dismissal of these cases when alleged violations are merely corrected. The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Paul G. Grant, Presiding Judge, Metro- politan Hall of Justice.
