RESOLUTION
Result . . .
WHEREAS, there exist in Salt Lake City a great number of dwell-
ings presently occupied by tenants, which are unsanitary and unsafe
or otherwise in violation of local health and housing codes; and
WHEREAS, it would greatly facilitate the attempt to improve the
housing situation in Salt Lake City if these violations, when reduced
to a criminal complaint, could be immediately heard by the court; and
WHEREAS, effective and competent prosecution of these offenders
can only be maintained if witnesses are available and if landlords
responsible for the violations are made to justly answer for maintain-
ing the condition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
' SALT LAKE CITY that said Board does hereby urge that the courts make
every effort to expedite the hearing of these types of cases by giving
them priority trial settings so that they may be expeditiously heard
to assure the availability of witnesses and supportive evidence.
This Board does further resolve that the City Prosecutor and
the Board of Health not recommend dismissal of these cases when alleged
violations are merely corrected.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this
Resolution to the Honorable Paul G. Grant, Presiding Judge, Metro-
politan Hall of Justice.
Passe by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this P+. day of October, 1972.
