Gibbons was killed July 3, 1973, while in the line of duty in his employment with Salt Lake City; and WHEREAS, his untimely death is deeply mourned by all who knew him; and WHEREAS, Leland J. Gibbons was dedicated to the service of the residents of Salt Lake City, having began his employment with the Salt Lake City Streets Department on September 26, 1962, then served as a truck driver and subsequently became a heavy duty equipment operator, which position he held at the time of his tragic accident; and WHEREAS, he was a valued employee, a hard worker, conscientious and diligent in regard to his employment with Salt Lake City; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gibbons was respected, admired and well liked by his fellow employees and by his friends and neighbors; and WHEREAS, in his passing, Salt Lake City has lost one of its most loyal and respected employees; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, that it does here- by express on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of Salt Lake City, its profound grief and sorrow and expresses its most sincere sympathy to Nadine Gibbons, the wife of Leland J. Gibbons, to his children, and other sur- vivors for the great personal loss which they have sustained. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the family of Leland J. Gibbons as an expression of our sympathy and deep feeling of loss.
