RESOLUTION
Result
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June llth, 1921, the most disastrous
fire in the history of Salt Lake City broke out at the plant of
the Utah Oil Refining Company, imperiling the lives of hundreds of
our citizens and threatening with destruction, millions of
dollars worth of property; and
WHEREAS, the entire membership of the Salt Lake Fire Depart-
ment, in their ready response to the call of duty, did bravely and
unflinchingly risk their liveswith the full knowledge that at any
moment the blazing oil tanks, the fire from which they were so
bravely and heroically fighting, might explode and snuff out
their lives;
NOW 1HEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners
tr of Salt Lake City, that a vote of thanks be extended to Chief
W. H. Bywater together with every man in his department for their
splendid devotion to duty under conditions which brought them face
A to face with death in its most horrible form.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners
extends to the firemen who were injured its heartfelt sympathy
and a sincere. wish for their speedy recovery; and that these
resolutions be spread upon. theminutes of the Board to be a
permanent record of duty well and faithfully performed.

Utah, June 14th, 1921.
