Here is a Resolution passed by the Salt Lake City
Commission endorsing the request of the Attorney
General of Utah, the Salt Lake County Bar Assoc-
iation and the Utah State Bar Association, that
Salt Lake City be selected as one of the areas to
be investigated for the establishment of a system
of furnishing public defenders for indigent persons.

Result . . . .
WHEREAS, the Ford Foundation has made a grant of funds to
the American Bar Association to be used to investigate the estab-
lishment of a system of furnishing public defenders for indigent
persons charged with crime; and
WHEREAS, the American Bar Association contemplates setting
up certain experimental areas within the United States in which
to conduct such investigations; and
WHEREAS, the Attorney General of Utah, the Salt Lake County
Bar Association and the Criminal Section of the Utah State Bar
have requested the American Bar Association to select Salt Lake
City and its environs as one of the experimental areas:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF SALT LAKE CITY that the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City
hereby endorses the request so made to select Salt Lake City and
its environs as one of the areas in which to conduct the proposed
investigation and hereby respectfully requests the American Bar
Association to give favorable consideration to the request so made.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, this
Third day of April , 1963.
