RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, in recent years there has been a marked increase
in crime of various types committed by juveniles; and
WHEREAS, there has likewise been a substantial increase
in vandalism committed by juveniles with an attendant increase
in property damage to both private and public property; and
WHEREAS, it appears that exposing the names of offenders
and their parents and certain details of the proceedings taken
by the courts involving the more serious violations of law has
proved effective in reducing such violations; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 42, now before the Utah Legislature
is designed to permit such exposure under specified conditions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF SALT LAKE CITY that said Board does hereby express itself in
favor of the passage of said Senate Bill 42 or similar legisla-
tion designed to accomplish the purpose of said bill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Recorder transmit a
copy of this resolution to the Speaker of the House and to the
President of the Senate of the Utah Legislature.
