DECLARATIO N
WHEREAS, on October 23, 1971, community minded citizens and
local high school volunteers of Salt Lake City will be directly
involved in a community directed "self-help" project to improve the
appearance of their own neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, additional manpower will be provided by students
of the University of Utah in conjunction with "Project Outreach"
to provide low income scholarships for worthy students; and
WHEREAS, local businessmen are substantially assisting this
project through the contribution of paint, equipment and food; and
WHEREAS, the project will include painting of homes, beauti-
fication of a local park, and general cleaning around the houses;
and
WHEREAS, such projects are consistent with the American
tradition of effecting constructive progress and change by operating
under the incentive of self-improvement and community pride; and
WHEREAS, this project is an example of the cooperation and
coordination of many different sectors of the Salt Lake community;
