WHEREAS, the dependence on world trade is increasing daily as
manifested by the growth in imports and exports from developed and
developing countries alike; and
WHEREAS, the importance of a means by which goods and products
can be exchanged by the various countries is becoming more and more
essential; and
WHEREAS, the United States of America is the largest market
place for transferring of goods and products between this country and
the other countries of the world; and
WHEREAS, there will be a World Trade Association Annual Banquet
on Thursday, May 19, at the Willow Creek Country Club which will call
attention to the importance of world trade; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Menelas Alexandrakis, Ambassador of Greece
(to the United States) , will speak at the annual banquet; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is actively promoting the development of
world trade by planning the establishment of a Foreigh-Trade Zone in
Salt Lake City. A date to have Salt Lake City's Grant of Authority
officially signed by the Secretary of Commerce is planned for the latter
part of this month; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City wishes to call attention to the growth
and development of the City that will take place as a result of the
Foreign-Trade Zone.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City that it does hereby declare the week of May 22nd through
the 28th, 1977, as World Trade Week in Salt Lake City and urge the
residents to take an active part in promoting and encouraging inter-
national trade and commerce.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 17th day of May, 1977.
