Dear Governor Rampton:
Here Is a resolution, passed by the Board of City Commissioners,
urging you on behalf of the citizens of Salt Lake City to use all
means available to you, including condemnation of property, if
such is necessary, to secure the opening of the access road on 18th
West Street between South Temple and 2nd South Streets.
It is respectfully requested that you give this matter your earnest
consideration.

RESOLUTION URGING GOVERNOR CALVIN L. RAMPTON
TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION TO OPEN THE ACCESS ROAD
ON 18TH WEST BETWEEN SOUTH TEMPLE AND 2ND
SOUTH STREETS.
WHEREAS, the State of Utah leased property to build an access
road on 18th West Street between South Temple and 2nd South Streets
and did build said access road at great cost to the State and its
taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, Lessor of said property required an unreasonable amount
of rent in negotiation of a new lease; and
WHEREAS, said access road was closed because of the failure to
negotiate a new lease upon reasonable terms; and
WHEREAS, many hundreds of people travel the I-80 Freeway to the
Salt Lake City International Airport, Litton Industries and other
destinations in this general vicinity; and
WHEREAS, the present access road is not sufficient to handle the
traffic load exiting from I-80; and
WHEREAS, the present situation results in serious traffic con-
gestion causing commuters to be late for work and to miss scheduled
airline flights at the Salt Lake City Airport, as well as constituting
a traffic hazard which could result in serious accidents, injuries and
possibly death; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has received many complaints daily from
local and area residents as well as from Airlines complaining of the
traffic jams caused by inadequate ingress and egress facilities on
I-80 at said location; and
WHEREAS, it is foreseeable that I-80 will not be completed in the
general vicinity of said location for another year or more; and
WHEREAS, said access road is urgently needed until I-80 is
completed:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that the Honorable Calvin L. Rampton, Governor
of the State of Utah, be, and hereby is, requested and urged on behalf
of the citizens of Salt Lake City to use all means available to him,
including condemnation of said property, if such is necessary to secure
the opening of the access road on 18th West Street between South Temple
and 2nd South Streets.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE
CITY, UTAH, that a copy of this Resolution be mailed to the Honorable
Calvin L. Rampton, Governor of the State of Utah.
