OF CONDOLENCE WHEREAS, Richard Louis Evans departed this life on the first day of November, 1971, at the age of 65 years; and WHEREAS, he devoted his life to the unselfish loving service of his community, nation and fellowmen, serving during his lifetime in many positions including president of Rotary International, member of the Utah State Board of Higher Education, trustee of Brigham Young University, regent of the University of Utah, editor of The Improvement Era, and many other positions of trust and confi- dence; and WHEREAS, he dedicated his life to service and his God, occupy- ing among other positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints those of member of The First Council of Seventy and as the Council of Twelve Apostles, and as commentator for the weekly broadcasts of the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir, whose voice was familiar to millions of persons through "The Spoken Word"; and WHEREAS, his outstanding abilities and character have been previously recognized through, among others, such awards as the Distinguished Service Award of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce and The Freedom Foundation Award; and WHEREAS, in his passing the City of Salt Lake has lost one of its most respected and valued citizens: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that it does hereby express on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of Salt Lake City, its deep and sincere appreciation for the life and services of Richard Louis Evans. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the family of Richard Louis Evans as an expression of our sympathy for the loss they have sustained in his passing.
