RESOLUTION
APPROVING THE SISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUEZON CITY AND SALT LAKE
CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Introduced& Sponsored by Councilors Bermudez, Mison, Paredes,
Lapus and Lucasan
WHEREAS, in the meeting of the George Washington University Alumni Associa-
tion of the Philippines held on the 28th of January, 1966 it was unanimously approved to
sound out the opinion of the Officials of Salt Lake City and Quezon City regarding the sister-
hood arrangement between the two cities;
WHEREAS, after a conscientious study and mature deliberation by the above-
mentioned Officials of the two cities concerned, and coming to the conclusion that such relation
ship would afford mutual benefit to both cities in particular and, to the Philippines and the
United States in general, they, therefore, approved in principle the idea of sisterhood
relationship;
WHEREAS, the sister-city relation, undoubtedly, would cause the development of
greater friendly feeling between the people of Salt Lake City and Quezon City thru the
cultural and educational exchange program which may be encouraged by the City Officials
and civic entities of the two cities, and by the industrial and commercial patronage which
may be given greater impetus, thus accruing to both cities substantial improvements in
their educational outlook and economic status;
WHEREAS, the existence of such ties between the two cities will enhance not only
the common interest of the two cities but also the national well-being of the Philippines and
the United States, and further considering that Quezon City has plenty to gain by such
relationship; therefore, the Honorable City Mayor of Quezon City thought it wise to create,
and did create, the Quezon City Civic Committee to carry on the correspondences with
the Salt Lake City authorities until such relationship is officially consummated by the two
cities and, further ordered the said Civic Committee to work for the implementation of
this sister-city arrangement; Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Council of Quezon City in session assembled, to approve as it does.
hereby approve the Sister-City Relationship between Quezon City and Salt Lake City, Utah,
United States of America.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, EXTENDING
AN INVITATION TO QUEZON CITY, THE PHILIPPINES, TO BECOME A SISTER-CITY IN
THE PEOPLE-TO-PEOPLE PROGRAM AND INVITING THE PEOPLE OF QUEZON CITY TO
PARTICIPATE IN SAID PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the "People-to-People Program" was established by the
President of the United States at the White House in 1956 to establish
greater friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United
States and other nations through the medium of direct personal contact,
and,
WHEREAS, to implement this program, Salt Lake City and other cities
in the United States have been requested by the Town Affiliation Associa-
tion of the United States to affiliate with a city abroad of similar
characteristics and mutual interest, and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City through its City Commission does recognize
and endorse this program with the hope that it will lead to a lasting
friendship between the people of Salt Lake City and Quezon City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Salt Lake City Commission as
follows:
Section 1. That this Commission on behalf of the people of Salt Lake
City hereby extends an invitation to the Government and people of the Quezr
City, The Philippines, to participate with Salt Lake City as its Sister-Ci
in the "People-to-People Program" for the purpose of creating goodwill and
understanding between the people of our two great nations.
Section 2. The Mayor does hereby authorize Dr. A. Ray Olpin, the

Chairman of the City's Civic Committee, to act as official representative
of Salt Lake City to carry out this program.
Section 3. That copies of this resolution are to be sent to the Mayor
and Council of the Quezon City, the Town Affiliation Association of the
United States, the United States Department of State and the Embassy of
The Philippines.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, on this
28th day of March , 1967.
