We are accumulating a fairly complete file on statistics and recommendations regarding the Great Salt Lake and do intend to give earnest consideration to the problems connected with the development and use. Hogensen � "vv Phillips RESOLUTION Result .41 WHEREAS, the citizens of Salt Lake City have a direct interest in the proper development of balanced recreational, environmental and industrial utilization of the entire Great Salt Lake, including its shorelands; and WHEREAS, the citizens of local units of government in proximity to the South Arm of Great Salt Lake are equitably entitled to equal treatment in such utilization; and WHEREAS, such equality is not afforded so long as the railroad causeway from Promontory Point to Lakeside constitutes a dam which bisects artificially the South Arm from the North and occasions dis- ruption of the natural character of the lake and flooding of the South Arm shorelands to the detriment of such utilization; and WHEREAS, the State of Utah has legal authority to rectify this imbalance and to promote such equality of treatment; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY: 1. That the Legislature of the State of Utah should take immediate steps to require and finance an opening or openings in said causeway as a first, short range step to restore the integrity of the Great Salt Lake and to ameliorate such flooding; 2. That the Legislature of the State of Utah be memoralized by Salt Lake City to this effect. Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this 13th day of January, 1977.
