Dear Sir:
Re.license Kenyon Hotel Company - I would ask
that the enclosed apHlication for license to the Kenyon
Hotel be denied for the following reasons:
On the 8th day of September, Officers Miner and
Smith made a raid upon the said hotel and arrested parties
giving their names as Dick Brown, Charles Houck, Nick
Pappas and Ed. Quinn, for gambling. The party giving his
name as Dick Brown, being one of the keepers of the said
gambling house. The Court record shows that these parties
on the llth of the month plead guilty to the charge of
gambling and were fined by the Judge of the said court.
This gambling house was located on the ground
floor of the said hotel and to the rear of the pool room.
A few days later, a prominent citizen of the town, report-
ed to the department that his young son, 15 years of age,
had not been home for several nights and that he was inform-
ed that he had spent most of the time at the Kenyon Hotel
pool room, playing pool. I sent Officer Wm. Hurst to find
the boy - after a search of two or three hours he found him
in a gambling joint on the mezzanine floor of this sane
hotel.- This joint was being run by the same man, Dick Brown,
who was arrested on September 8th. , and his two associates.
Officer Hurst found a look-out at the door - he gained
admission and found the boy playing poker with several other
parties. He had a stack of chips in his possession - these
chips he converted into cash in the presence of Officer
Hurst. Feeling that the Juvenile Court would probably deal
more harshly with these gamblers and the Hotel proprietor
than the regular courts would, I had Officer Hurst report
the facts to the Juvenile Court. I understant at the present
time the Juvenile Court officers have either coanenced, or
are about to comrence proceedings against the three propriet-
ors of the gambling house and. the hotel proprietor for
contributing to the delinquency of the boy above referred to
and one other lad whose name was furnished to the Juvenile
