WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City has been informed that the House-Passed Appropriation's Bill for Head Start substantially reduces the amount of funds available to operate Head Start programs during the current fiscal year; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City feels that the Head Start programs being operated in Salt Lake County are an effective mechanism for long-range reduction of poverty in this County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMIS- SIONERS OF SALT LAKE CITY that it go on record as being opposed to passage of any legislation that would reduce or in any way materially alter the Head Start programs as now funded by the federal government in Salt Lake County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Commission admonishes the Senators from the State of Utah to take whatever actions may be appropriate to either defeat or modify that portion of the House-Passed Appropriation Bill in such a way as to restore Head Start monies that were cut by the House of Representatives.
